Durable and beautiful hardwood construction is a hallmark of Community Playthings products. And we are mindful of our duty to use those resources wisely and help our customers do the same.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an independent non-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world's forests to meet the economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.
FSC provides a standard accreditation for companies and organizations such as Community Playthings who are interested in responsible forestry.
Products carrying the FSC certification title are independently certified to assure consumers that they come from forests that are legally and responsibly harvested.
FSC-certified products can help obtain LEED rating points.
While there are several credible wood certification programs, the most stringent, and the only one to date accepted by LEED, is set by the FSC. FSC goes beyond other standards in its conservation of ecosystems and resources for future generations. It has our children and their children in mind, and that's a key reason Community Playthings chose FSC.
Forest Stewardship Council
certification for a growing selection of products assures they come from responsibly managed forests.
Sample FSC principles and criteria for foresters:
- Conserve biological diversity and its associated values, water resources, soils, unique and fragile ecosystems
- Respect the rights and wellbeing of indigenous peoples, forest workers and local communities
- Prohibit conversion of forests or any other natural habitat
- Encourage the efficient use of the forest’s multiple products and services
- Follow all applicable laws
