Upon arrival parents and children are greeted by a warm, cozy place to sit and read with children. Family photos are on and above several bookshelves and family photo books are placed in this area which the children often go to upon arrival when they are having trouble separating from loved ones. There are varieties of books including books that children made together and books that children made independently or with a friend. In this area there are places to sit independently with a blanket and places to sit with a group of people to play board games.

Dramatic Play - spider web
The children are given materials and information for open ended investigation. They can then act out in play scenarios they are just beginning to understand. The children were acting out a spider making a web, catching his prey and wrapping it in silk to eat it.

The Zen Garden
A peaceful place in the classroom where the children can be alone to calm, think, reflect, imagine, meditate and find tranquility.
The Art Wall
On this day the children chose to look at a book in the block area about bridges. One child found a picture of a bridge that led to a castle and he decided to recreate the picture. Many friends joined in the effort to build this bridge and castle and by the end of their day the bridge was completed but not the castle. The next group of children that came in that day respected the previous bridge work that the previous children had done and decided to help them in their building. The two groups of children, having never met, worked together to recreate something they were fascinated by.
